Lincoln, NE – April 25, 2017: On May 2, voters will elect three candidates to the Lincoln City Council.

The Nebraska League of Conservation Voters (NLCV) announced today its endorsements in this year’s city election: Leirion Gaylor Baird, Roy Christensen, and Bennie Shobe.

"Part of maintaining Lincoln's quality of life is taking care of our environment; that's why as a member of the City Council I've supported recycling measures and the addition of clean energy CNG buses to reduce CO2 emissions. Thank you to the League of Conservation Voters for the endorsement of my re-election," said Roy Christensen, who was first elected to the Lincoln City Council in 2013.

“Leirion, Roy, and Bennie are dedicated to conserving our community’s natural and financial resources, and we can trust that they will enact common sense solutions to protect our health and safety if elected this May,” said NLCV’s Executive Director, Eliot Bostar.

Upon notification of receiving NLCV’s endorsement, Leirion Gaylor Baird said, “As a mother, I feel deeply committed to protecting the health of our environment and the future we leave our children. I am proud to garner the support of the Nebraska League of Conservation Voters and will continue to advocate for thoughtful stewardship of our community’s natural resources and the quality of life they afford us.” Leirion Gaylor Baird has served on the Lincoln City Council since 2013.

“Throughout their time on the Lincoln City Council, Leirion Gaylor Baird and Roy Christensen have demonstrated commitment to our city’s natural legacy while implementing common sense solutions that are fiscally responsible. The addition of Bennie Shobe to the Lincoln City Council would solidify the Council’s commitment to ensuring that our natural legacy is protected and that our community thrives. Together, Leirion, Roy, and Bennie will ensure our community has a prosperous and vibrant future,” said Bostar.

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of the Nebraska League of Conservation Voters. I believe deeply in their mission and will advocate for environmental issues that are important to the residents of Lincoln, Lancaster County and the state of Nebraska," said Bennie Shobe, who has served on numerous community boards, neighborhood associations and advisory commissions.

NLCV’s mission is to turn conservation values into political priorities, and ensure that our land, air, and water are protected for future generations. To achieve that end, NLCV works to elect candidates who will champion conservation policies while in office.
